Gabriella is an autodidact documentary photographer from San Juan, Puerto Rico. With less than a year of experience, she was selected as the 2017 Student Photographer of the Year in the Association of Puerto Rican Photojournalists competition and was awarded the José Ismael Fernández Photojournalism Scholarship, for which she interned at El Nuevo Día, one of the largest news organizations on the island. In 2018, she was selected to participate in the 1st National Geographic Photo Camp to take place on the island where she, among her mentors and peers, developed a photo essay on resilience in the aftermath of Hurricane María at major coffee plantations. In January of this year she received news of being selected to participate in the 7th Annual New York Times Lens Portfolio Review, which will be held in the upcoming March. She is majoring in Anthropology at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras campus and is a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Research Fellow; for which she is developing an interdisciplinary two-year project on street art that integrates Geographic Information Systems, ethnography, and photography.
